This was for an exhibit documenting the return of General Lafayette to the US, after the revolution. The red drum object was lined with a 360 degree painting of Versaille. When you look in the view port on the left, a perescope allows you to see into the center of the drum. You can turn the crank to rotate the drum and see the entire 360 degrees of the painting.
